Referees must do better – Hughes

first_img Hughes had to take Ireland off at half-time of the Barclays Premier League contest at the Britannia Stadium due to a calf injury the Potters midfielder sustained when being tackled by Tigers defender Figueroa just before the break. The manager after the game revealed Ireland had to have “something like 12 or 15 stitches” and claimed Figueroa should have been shown a straight red card. Stoke boss Mark Hughes has accused Maynor Figueroa of making an “horrendous tackle” on Stephen Ireland during Saturday’s 1-0 win over Hull, rating the challenge as worse than Ashley Barnes’ on Nemanja Matic last weekend and hitting out at the officials for taking no action. Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho labelled Barnes’ tackle on Matic – also not punished during the game – as “criminal”. And Hughes said: “I think there has been a lot of debate about a certain challenge in the Chelsea-Burnley game and I think this one is actually worse than that. “Stevie didn’t get up and run after the lad because he wasn’t in a position to do so, due to the injury he had sustained. “We are upset by that challenge and what it might entail for Stevie – he is going to be missing for any number of weeks. It was a terrible challenge. “You just ask for the key moments in games to be refereed correctly, and I think that’s the main gripe at the moment – key decisions are not being made correctly, or things are being missed on too many occasions. It has to improve.” Asked about games being ‘re-refereed’ after the final whistle, Hughes added: “I’m not advocating anything, but I think it’s a case of we have professional referees now and it is not a part-time job. It’s about time they did their job correctly.” Giving his assessment overall of what was a scrappy contest, the Welshman said: “I thought we were the only team with an attitude of being positive and showing ambition. “Hull came with a gameplan to make it difficult and get people behind the ball, which is their right. “But in terms of trying to make a game of it, doing the right things and being creative, there was only one team deserving of the victory.” Hull boss Steve Bruce had his own complaints about the officials, insisting Crouch – who scored a minute after coming on, notching his ninth goal of the season and fourth in four appearances – had been offside. Bruce said: “The defenders were adamant he was. They had done enough, because he is offside, but unfortunately, the linesman hasn’t seen it that way. “You expect them to get those decisions right. It is disappointing. “I don’t think we ever deserved to win the match, but you don’t expect to lose the game to something like that, not at this level. “I know they have a difficult job, made very difficult here – they get put under pressure from all sorts of people here. But if the linesman does his job properly, then we get a point.” Bruce, whose side are four points above the relegation zone in 15th while Stoke are 10th, also revealed Robbie Brady had missed the game due to a calf injury, and that top-scorer Nikica Jelavic had sat it out due to having a knee “twice as big as it should be”. Referee Neil Swarbrick had allowed play to continue at the time, and he and his assistant were strongly condemned by Hughes, who was quick to compare the incident to the one involving Burnley forward Barnes and Chelsea midfielder Matic at Stamford Bridge last Saturday which has drawn so much attention over the past week. Reflecting on the victory, Hughes – whose side’s winner came in the 71st minute when Ireland’s replacement Charlie Adam delivered a cross that fellow substitute Peter Crouch headed home – said: “We were really pleased. “But I have to say, it is tempered somewhat because we have Stevie Ireland having been on the end of an horrendous tackle in the first half – one that should have seen a straight red card, to be perfectly honest. “Why the referee or his assistant haven’t seen the severity of that challenge… He (Ireland) has come in at half-time, rolled his sock down, and I think everyone was taken aback by the severity of the gash on his calf. “He has got something like 12 or 15 stitches in the leg wound, so for the officials to not see that challenge – I’ve seen it on video, and it is shocking. “I’m highlighting it not because I want to get anyone in trouble – I’m just saying that, on the day, I thought the referee was poor. “We had two players shown yellow cards, and in comparison to that challenge on Stevie Ireland, I think it is remarkable, astounding that the referee hasn’t sent the lad straight off. They need to be better. “The assistant referee was only 10 yards away for goodness’ sake, so he needs to see that challenge. It is a poor one.” Press Associationlast_img read more

BRICS summit preparations under way

first_img9 October 2012Preparations for South Africa’s hosting of the 5th BRICS Summit in March 2013 are at an advanced stage, International Relations and Cooperation Deputy Minister Ebrahim Ebrahim said on Tuesday.“Our logistics team has already started with preparations … and are well advanced for hosting the summit,” Ebrahim told reporters in Pretoria following last week’s meeting of the BRICS inter-ministerial committee, which advises the Cabinet on the hosting of the summit.South Africa was admitted to the grouping of powerful emerging economies, which includes Brazil, Russia, India and China, at the third annual summit of the bloc’s leaders in China in 2011.At this year’s summit in New Delhi, India, South Africa was awarded the hosting of the 2013 summit, which will take place in Durban.BRICS development bankAmong the key decisions expected to come out of the South Africa summit include the formation of a BRICS-led South-South development bank, funded and managed by the BRICS and other developing countries. The plan is a subject of discussion among BRICS leaders, who see it as a possible alternative financial institution to the International Monetary Fund and World Bank. Such a bank could help its member countries pool resources for infrastructure development and lend among themselves during difficult global times.Asked on Tuesday if South Africa believed the idea was feasible, Ebrahim said: “A technical team has been established, and hopefully when we meet in March that team will be able to tell us if it is feasible or not.“We think that a bank like that will assist the group and South Africa.”The bank is part of a strategy, agreed in New Delhi last year, to look at long-term investment opportunities within BRICS countries.BRICS bank ‘would boost South Africa’In June, Business Unity South Africa CEO Nomaxabiso Majokweni told an African National Congress (ANC) business forum that an immediate benefit of a BRICS bank would be “a massive injection in our infrastructure development plan, which could help the government meet some of its very ambitious growth targets”.Majokweni said that a BRICS bank would “promote growth and investment in its member states and other emerging markets, and will be a strong voice in the lobbying for the reform of international financial institutions”.Also in June, South African President Jacob Zuma, Chinese President Hu Jintao, Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh met on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Mexico.During their meeting, the five leaders discussed the possibility of setting up a currency swap arrangement and a foreign exchange reserve pool within the five-member framework. The foreign exchange reserve pool would act as a financial safety net, creating a joint pool of reserves to be used in case any member country was faced with sudden capital flight.SANews.gov.za and SAinfo reporterlast_img read more

New Fendt IDEAL combine

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest The new Fendt IDEAL combine is the first “clean-sheet” design of an axial combine in the industry in 30 years. It sets a new standard for harvesting automation, blending Fendt’s tradition of engineering innovation with the most advanced operating technology, to deliver what producers around the world told AGCO they want in a combine — in-field efficiency, unfailing uptime, totally simple operation and better grain quality.“We know harvest is a critical time, experienced operators can be hard to find and every bushel from every acre counts,” said Caleb Schleder, tactical marketing manager for combines. “The Fendt IDEAL is a game changer because it is highly automated, but easy to operate. We created this combine to bring our customers peace of mind that they can go to the field, run steadily all day long and get the crop harvested with great efficiency and minimal downtime.“We’re backing that up with best-in-class customer support through the Fendt Gold Star Customer Care Plan,” Schleder said. After seven years of vigorous testing in the most extreme conditions in a variety of crops, the Fendt IDEAL combine joins the proven and popular Gleaner transverse rotary combine and the Massey Ferguson 9500 Series axial combine in AGCO’s harvesting portfolio. The Fendt IDEAL will be available in Class 7, 8 and 9, to match the harvest capacity needed by any operation. Headers featured for small grains and canola include the 9255 DynaFlex draper head available in 25-, 30-, 35- and 40-foot models and the 15-foot 4300 pick up head. Additionally, the Command Series corn head will be compatible with the Fendt IDEAL combine. Fendt IDEAL technology delivers control and ease of operationThe Fendt IDEAL combine sets a new standard for harvesting automation that makes operation easier, optimizes machine performance and ensures top grain quality. Equipped with the IDEALharvest system, these machines offer real-time visualization of crop flow inside the combine. A combination of specialized sensors determines what is grain and what is not and directs the IDEALharvest system to change the combine settings to achieve the operator’s pre-set harvest strategy.“The Fendt IDEAL combine automatically makes on-the-go adjustments to maintain established harvesting parameters, which reduces the effort of the operator as conditions change throughout the day,” Schleder said.An easy-to-use touch-screen tablet allows the operator to select preferences for minimizing grain damage, loss and material other than grain (MOG) in the bin. In addition, the IDEALharvest system compensates for sudden changes such as crop density and field slope, adjusting to maintain machine performance and grain quality. This technology is especially important when harvesting cereal grains where crop maturity, crop quality, plant health, stand variability and harsh weather can make harvest challenging. Innovative rotor design is efficient and easy on grainSeveral new features on the Fendt IDEAL combine help producers optimize grain harvested and deliver cleaner, high-quality grain, lowering the potential for costly deductions. The larger, redesigned rotor on the Fendt IDEAL combine is gentler on both the crop and straw. The new dual helix processor is 24 inches in diameter and nearly 16 feet long, almost 2 feet longer than the competition, which allows the materials to generate huge centrifugal force at a much lower speed and remain in the rotor for longer. The helix arrangement of the separation tines ensures exceptional threshing results and separates grain gently while the straw quality is maintained. In addition, this dual helix processor design allows the combine to operate at a slower speed, requiring less power to operate.Class 8 and 9 models use two of the dual helix rotors providing 43.7 square feet of threshing area. The class 7 is equipped with one rotor. Curved return pans evenly spread grain for cleaning, improve efficiencyDesign innovations go beyond the rotor to the cleaning shoe where two specially molded, curved return pans use the full length of the threshing and separation chamber to distribute the crop evenly to the cleaning shoe, mitigating slope sensitivity. These IDEAL Balance pans enhance the efficiency of the cleaning system without adding complex active systems. Faster unloading time, less downtimeWith the industry’s largest grain tank at 485 bushels and the innovative IDEAL Streamer 6.0 auger, which boasts the industry’s fastest unloading rate at 6.0 bushels per second, growers will spend less time unloading grain and more time harvesting. The Streamer 6.0 is standard on the class 9 and optional on class 7 and 8 which come standard with the Streamer 4.0 to unload at 4 bushel per second. Both are gentle on grain and require less power than older auger systems. Single gearbox, fewer belts put power to usePower for the Fendt IDEAL combine and all main components is delivered through a straight-forward approach that provides the most efficient distribution of power. One gearbox attached directly to the engine drives the processor, cleaning system and hydraulic pumps, as well as the header. The Fendt IDEAL combine also uses fewer belts than other combines. Wet clutches ensure smooth engagement of the power, reducing wear and tear and maintenance on each component, and creating less strain on belts.Uptime promise“Producers interviewed always asked for more uptime, so that is a focus of the Fendt IDEAL combine. Fendt IDEAL combines will fall under the Fendt Gold Star Customer Care Plan,” Schleder said. “The Gold Star Plan provides regular service and maintenance to control costs by minimizing costly repairs while giving growers more uptime. The Fendt IDEAL will offer an enhanced service/warranty package which includes 24-hour uptime assurance to ensure all IDEAL owners have maximum uptime during the critical harvest window.”The Fendt IDEAL combine also offers the full suite of AGCO Fuse precision farming technology solutions to capture data that brings crop production decisions full circle, from planning, field prep and planting through crop care to harvest and storage.last_img read more

House passes of legislation to revise Federal FFA Charter

first_imgShare Facebook Twitter Google + LinkedIn Pinterest Congressman Bob Latta (R-Bowling Green) is applauding the House passage of legislation, the National FFA Organization’s Federal Charter Amendments Act, which would amend the FFA charter and provide more control to FFA leadership. The legislation, H.R. 439, was passed by voice vote this week. The legislation seeks to provide more flexibility to the FFA Board by reducing the number of board members appointed by the U.S. Department of Education and opens the door to allowing more than six national FFA officers. Under the current configuration, the Department of Education has left seats unfilled on the board for significant periods of time, which can threaten a quorum if there are any other absences.“The National FFA provides more than 650,000 students with the opportunity to grow, learn, and prepare for the future,” Latta said. “I’ve seen the impact that FFA has had on students in Ohio, and it’s essential that the organization has the structure it needs to support more than 8,500 local FFA chapters across the country. Because the National FFA is chartered by Congress, this legislation will ensure FFA leadership can effectively run their organization and teach the next generation of agriculture leaders.”The Ohio FFA Association has more than 25,000 members in 315 chapters throughout Ohio.last_img read more

Top 5 Marketing Stories of the Week: For Every Two Steps Forward, Take One Step Back

first_img Topics: I’ve always been the kind of person to dive headfirst into the pool, lake, ocean — whatever body of water is nearest. The thrill of the jump is exhilarating, but after a few too many head bumps, fish encounters and sharp seashells, I learned to step back and look at where I was going first. Try to think of marketing the same way — you are bound to both reap rewards and make mistakes, but sometimes you just need to take a step back and re-evaluate. This week’s top five marketing stories from InboundMarketing.com show that you need to evaluate what’s already been done, to look at things from a fresh perspective, and most importantly, to keep moving forward.1. Inbound Marketing: A Video Intro Author: Dylan SpencerThis video takes less than three minutes to watch, and provides all the basics about the benefits of inbound marketing vs. outbound (traditional marketing). What makes this seemingly simple video a stand out is that the video itself is a great example of inbound marketing. Dylan recognized that hundreds of people have already written articles on the topic, so instead, he made a straightforward, yet catchy video, then put it on a social media platform (YouTube) with relevant links and tags. A great example of content creation done right.Lesson: If It’s Been Done, Find A Way To Do It Differently, Or Better2. Driving Organic Traffic from Search EnginesAuthor: Shimon SandlerIt’s one thing to have a website. It’s a completely other thing to have an effective website that pulls in leads and drives loads of traffic. The difference between these two websites is content. As Sandler says in his article, SEO is a combination of good links and good content. A visitor may find your site through a link, but he can also leave your site if it has no relevant or interesting content. Lesson: Create Content to Drive (and Keep)Traffic3. With Organic Search, Content and Inbound Linking Is KingAuthor: Christopher Hosford Search engine optimization is, if nothing else, complicated. You need links, but they need to be the right kind of links. You need content, but it needs to be relevant and captivating content. You need to choose keywords and create landing pages, and you need to make all these pieces fit together.Hosford also points out that it is imperative to keep in mind your company’s goals and make sure that your content reflects those goals, and people will be naturally inclined to link to you.Lesson: Know Your Niche4. 12 Steps for Small Business Owners. Please Stop the Denial. (Part I)Author: Dan Ronken In this first post of two, Ronken takes the classic twelve steps of recovery and gives them a twist — getting small business owners involved in social media. The first post covers the first five steps, including admitting you can’t control everything said about your company, “identifying your true assets and liabilities,” and others. This post is meant not to tell small businesses what they are doing wrong, but to show that there are relatively painless ways to turn a business around or just give it the boost it needs.Lesson: Always Examine, Always Reflect, Learn to Reform5. Personal vs. Business Branding- 4 Reasons It’s SituationalAuthor: Suzanne Vara Vara poses an interesting question here: where do personal branding and business branding collide? She asserts that when these “brands” do come together, one type of branding will supercede the other, depending on the situation.Your interactions with family members may be viewed as purely personal branding by that family member, but what happens when they talk about your company to someone else, someone who doesn’t know you? They may attribute their views of the company to their views of you, whereas your family member might be more likely to attribute to the company what they see in you.Lesson: Business Branding Can Be PersonalPhoto Credit: Steve Jurvetson Webinar: Advanced Business Blogging Learn how to build your business blog into an inbound marketing machine.Download the free webinar to learn how to create a thriving blog. AddThis Sharing ButtonsShare to TwitterTwitterShare to FacebookFacebookShare to Email AppEmail AppShare to LinkedInLinkedInShare to MessengerMessengerShare to SlackSlack Google indicated it will be rolling out the new +1 button features over the next week or so.Huge Benefits for Marketers The +1 was already powerful for marketers, with the button now embedded on more than 1 million websites and generating a total of 4 billion daily views. We also reported two weeks ago that websites that use Google’s +1 button generated 3.5 times more traffic from Google+ than websites that don’t have the button installed. This is impressive as is, but the button’s newest features will undoubtedly make the button even more powerful. With users’ new ability to share content on the web with their Circles, your content’s potential to spread even further and reach more people increases dramatically. If you don’t already have the +1 button installed on your website/blog, don’t hesitate any longer. You’re likely missing out on a major opportunity to expand the reach of your content and increase traffic and leads, especially now. Originally published Aug 25, 2011 11:00:00 AM, updated October 20 2016 The +1 button just got a makeover! Starting yesterday, Google started rolling out new features that allow users to use the button to share a web page directly to Google+. Similar to Facebook’s sharing button, when on a web page, clicking the +1 button will also offer the option to ‘Share on Google+.’ Doing so will allow the user to add a comment, choose a Circle to share it with, and share! This is a step up from the +1 button’s previous functionality, whose sharing power was limited to a tab on the user’s Google+ profile. Below is a video overview of the +1 button’s new functionality. The New Functionality Highlights 2 New FeaturesSharing With Google+ Circles: As we mentioned, the ‘Share to Google+’ option now included as a function of the +1 button allows users to select specific Circles to share web pages with on Google+ and enables the user to add a comment as well.+Snippets: Users will also notice that when they click the ‘Share to Google+’ option, the web page’s title, an image, and a description automatically gets pulled in, just as Facebook’s sharing feature does. Google also announced the ability for publishers to customize the code of their +1 button to modify what automatically gets pulled into a +snippet.last_img read more

However, just a big market isn’t enough; you need a market that is going through or will go through a big disruption. Without this disruption, the established players will have too much of an advantage. Some examples of companies who have successfully leveraged disruption include Apple’s capitalization on disruption in the market for music (originally driven by the creation of digital music formats and services like Napster) or Amazon’s ability to take advantage of the disruption in retail or commerce (made possible by the rise of the world wide web). When you are buying 100 or 1,000 leads per month, that isn’t so bad. How to Use Twitter Hashtags to Generate Event Marketing Buzz

first_img Event Marketing Two weeks ago, HubSpot hosted the world’s biggest webinar, which attracted over 30,000 registrants and close to 11,000 attendees. The event also achieved a serious level of buzz on Twitter with a trending hashtag of #smsci. Not only did the 11,000 attendees learn about the science of social media, but they also benefited from the related conversations with thousands of other Twitter users. Creating a hashtag on Twitter allows for event attendees to connect with each other and discuss your event, which you can then measure and use to gauge the topic’s success. On August 23rd, the hashtag #smsci was used to facilitate and track the conversation around Dan Zarrella’s “The Science of Social Media” webinar. Hashtracking.com allowed HubSpot to follow the effect of conversations surrounding the event. Its analytics allow users to track campaigns, measure reach, and calculate the influence of a given topic. The hashtag #smsci was mentioned in 13,500 tweets and resulted in over 19.7 million impressions, most of which occurred during the span of webinar. For marketers, having access to these type of statistics can help to measure the effect and reach of their events and promotions.Hashtag Goals & StrategyIn order to get your hashtag to spread as much as possible or — even better — to become a trending topic on Twitter, it’s important to generate a large number of impressions with your hashtag. You can do this by creating tons of tweets that include your hashtag or by deploying a more strategic approach by leveraging users with substantial reach to tweet your hashtag. For example, for #smsci, just one tweet from @tw_top_business generated over 249,000 impressions. HubSpot’s Twitter account (@HubSpot), which has a reach of 128K followers, also helped to make the hashtag trend. With only 33 tweets, @HubSpot generated 4.2 million impressions. How to Get the Most Out of Your Hashtags1. Keep It Brief: When creating a hashtag for your own event, be sure to keep it short and easy to remember. When your attendees use the hashtag in their tweets, remember they are only allotted 140 characters. By keeping the hashtag brief, your audience saves room to include more commentary about your event.2. Create It Early: It’s important to generate buzz around your topic by introducing your hashtag well before the launch of your event. The hashtag #smsci was created weeks before the webinar was held to promote the event and gain recognition with the audience. Create your hashtag as soon as you conceptualize the event to get the conversation going early.3. Be Strategic: Remember that you can save time and effort by leveraging the reach of other powerful users. Your hashtag should be engaging enough to organically attract the attention of notable influencers. However, it doesn’t hurt to take a look at your followers and see how you can appeal to those with large followings. Just a few tweets from them can generate the large number of impressions you’re looking to create. How else can you use Twitter hashtags to generate buzz around and interest in online or offline events?Photo Credit: Rosaura Ochoa Originally published Sep 7, 2011 5:01:00 PM, updated February 01 2017 Topics: Don’t forget to share this post!
