Trump needs to connect with nature

first_imgCategories: Letters to the Editor, OpinionPresident Trump appears thoroughly alienated from nature. By his words and actions, he appears to believe that we’re disassociated from Mother Nature and need only pay attention to the stock market. He’s a denier on climate change, despite the much more volatile extreme hurricanes and rain events happening on his watch and affecting great swaths of the country. He’s diminishing and compromising our public lands, whether national monuments in the West or America’s great Serengeti, the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. He wants to drill for oil and gas off every coastline, despite having lived through the great gulf oil blowout of 2010. He’s placed a tariff on imported solar panels, which makes no environmental or economic sense given the global marketplace of renewable energy. He hates sharks and wants them to vanish from the deep. His leaders of the Environmental Protection Agency and Interior Department are acting with hostility or indifference to their agencies’ very missions. President Trump is a sad case of having grown up apparently without any adults to encourage his interest in nature and a natural world that very much includes human beings. Our pleasure and emotional and psychological balance depends upon taking some interest in and caring for a portion of this fragile planet.David GibsonBallston LakeMore from The Daily Gazette:EDITORIAL: Thruway tax unfair to working motoristsPolice: Schenectady woman tried to take car in Clifton Park hours after arrest, release in prior the…EDITORIAL: Beware of voter intimidationFoss: Should main downtown branch of the Schenectady County Public Library reopen?EDITORIAL: Find a way to get family members into nursing homeslast_img
