Lloyd Crowe Hawks, bouncing the Silver City school 63-46 in Kootenay High School AA Boy’s Basketball League action Tuesday in Trail.Jason D’Andrea, playing most of the game in foul trouble, led the charge scoring 16 points.“It was good to see the boys play well after the team won their own Bomber Classic tournament over the weekend,” said head coach Blair D’Andrea.“The team is above .500 and continues to play well as we prepare for the zones later this month.”LVR struggled in the first half against the gritty Hawks leading 16-6. Castlegar faces Osoyoos in Game one of the KIJHL Final Saturday

first_imgBy The Nelson Daily SportsThe Castlegar Rebels face an uphill battle when the Kootenay Conference Champs meet the best from the Okanagan in the Osoyoos Coyotes in game one of the Kootenay International Junior Hockey League Final Saturday in the South Okanagan City.But the Rebels are ready for any challenge. Castlegar just disposed of the second-best team in the KIJHL, in the Fernie Ghostriders. So why not do the same to the regular season champs?The teams begin the best-of-seven final Saturday in Osoyoos. Game two is Sunday in the Desert City.The series then shifts to the Castlegar Complex for games three and four, Tuesday and Wednesday.If necessary, game five returns to Osoyoos Thursday, March 24. Kootenay Ice Midgets host Rockets at NDCC Arena

first_imgNelson hockey fans get one of only a few good looks at the Kootenay Ice as the B.C. Major Midget Hockey League club opens the home season Saturday in at the NDCC Arena against the Okanagan Rockets.The Ice enter the weekend series, 6:30 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday, winless in two starts after beginning the BCMMHL season in Nanaimo against the North Island Silvertips.The Ice are led by returning forward Jake Lucchini of Trail, who leads the team in scoring with a pair of goals and goalie Kimberley Newell.Kootenay was idle last weekend but played a pair of games against the Okanagan Hockey Association from Penticton in Grand Forks.The next home games for the Ice will be played October 22 & 23 (Cariboo Cougars) in Castlegar and November 5 & 6 (Vancouver Northeast Chiefs) in Trail.sports@thenelsondaily.comlast_img read more
