Thompson, McLeod Sweep Weekly Softball Honors for Bearkats


first_imgFRISCO, Texas – Sam Houston State’s Tiffany Thompson and Lindsey McLeod are the Southland Conference Softball Players of the Week, the league announced Monday. Southland Conference Players of the Week are presented by crossed home plate four times in three games for Sam Houston State (26-19, 17-4 SLC) to boost her squad to a perfect 3-0 week against Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Friday and Saturday. The junior launched a pair of home runs to accompany two RBIs and a triple in the series. She also notched a 1.400 slugging percentage and a .600 on base average across the trio of games. The award marks the second of the season and second consecutive weekly honor for Thompson.McLeod delivered a stunning week in the circle for the Bearkats, posting a 2-0 record and dealing 24 strikeouts over 12 innings for a .081 opponent batting average. The senior pitcher allowed just three hits in a pair of complete-game shutout victories over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The honor is the second of the season for McLeod.Softball Hitter of the Week – Tiffany Thompson, Sam Houston State – SS– Jr. – Montgomery, TexasThompson continued her hot streak at the plate in a series sweep over the Islanders this past weekend, recording at least one hit in each game for a .600 batting average. She belted two more home runs, the second a two-run shot in the fifth inning that proved to be the difference in a 3-1 game-two victory. Thompson marked a 1.400 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base average over the three-game stretch. The senior threw a gem in game one of the series, allowing only one hit by the Islanders. Of the first 16 batters she faced, only two managed to put the ball in play.
