Scene set for double-header in Lae

first_imgLae FC has jumped up the National Soccer League competition points ladder to second spot following their victory today at Bisini Soccer Ground.The semi-finalist defeated bottom team Admiralty FC 2-1 in an outstanding match which was cancelled in round nine after a spectator violence incident.Both teams were on fire in the first half, scoring one goal each.Lae scored first in the first 20 minutes through Gebob Madu who comfortably pushed the ball into the net right in front of Admiralty’s goal.Admiralty fired back with a goal after a surprising second attempt by striker Roniel Igens, taking the score to 1-1 at half time.It was anybody’s game at this point as Lae FC show cased powerful kicks from one end of the field to another throughout the game which had the fans screaming for more action.The second half was very entertaining as both teams were desperate to score despite the raging Port Moresby heat.Finally, the goal of the day came from Lae FC’s Eluda Phoie 16 minutes into the second half.Phoie kicked the ball with his powerful legs 30 metres away straight through Admiralty’s goal which brought the score to 2-1.The score remained 2-1 at full time as Admiralty FC ended their 2014 NSL season with a loss.The semi-final gets underway this Saturday at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae with a double header as the four top teams this season go head to head.Top team Hekari United FC will face fourth place Gigira Laitepo Morobe FC in the first match at 1pm while Lae FC will battle with third placed  Oro FC at 3pm.The grand final and presentation is scheduled for May 24 also in Lae.As this will be a first for Lae to host the final playoffs, the board says it trusts that the general public and soccer fraternity appreciate this gesture by showing respect and sportsmanship to the visiting teams.last_img
