How To Watch Tonight’s Election Results Online

first_imgOn November 6, 2012, the first post-PC U.S. presidential election will come to a close. Just like the primaries, conventions and debates, tonight’s election returns will be obsessively and extensively live streamed and covered online. For those relying on the Internet for their nail-biting date with democracy, there are more choices than anyone could possibly list. Pretty much every modern news site in the United States (and many abroad) will be covering the results as they happen. That coverage will consist of a dizzying array of interactive maps, data visualizations, live video feeds, tweets, Instagram photos and good, old fashioned news articles. The New York Times and Wall Street Journal are even pulling down their paywalls for the occasion. YouTube’s Election Hub will be live streaming results, just as it has done with pretty much every other major election-related event this year. The politics-focused channel has become a robust repository for videos related to the presidential campaign, from debate clips and convention speeches to attack ads and professional punditry. While waiting for the electoral results to start rolling in, you can ease your impatience with one last burst of election-related video before the campaign fatigue comes to a merciful end. No Shortage Of Video StreamsCNN will offer live video feeds of the election results, along with the usual assortment of maps, interactive tools and social media updates. The live video stream will be available on CNN’s mobile apps, but only to cable subscribers. Users of any tablet can check CNN’s live results map in the browser and play around with the Facebook Election Insights tool, which is fueled by real-time data from the enormous social network.  8 Best WordPress Hosting Solutions on the Market Tags:#election 2012#politics#Streaming video#YouTube A Web Developer’s New Best Friend is the AI Wai… Why Tech Companies Need Simpler Terms of Servic… Related Posts Top Reasons to Go With Managed WordPress Hosting john paul titlow The Wall Street Journal is planning a similarly cross-platform night of political coverage. Alongside standard news stories, it will have a dynamically updated map powered by CartoDB, a New York-based mapping startup. In addition to state-by-state election returns, that map allows users to overlay state-based data points like unemployment, per-capita income and previous election results. The Wall Street Journal will also stream video coverage live on its website and via its WSJ Live app for mobile devices and Internet TV streaming boxes. Other sites offering live-streamed video coverage include Politico,Washington Post, CBS News, HuffPost Live and the Chicago Tribune, to name but a few.  If you’re at a loss, head over to UStream, where there will be a selection of more than a dozen video streams to chose from. Video isn’t the only option. If you’d rather listen to the returns and focus your eyes elsewhere, NPR will be broadcasting live on its website and via its mobile apps. Meanwhile, Slacker Radio has partnered with ABC News to provide its own live audio coverage. This is really just a sampling of sources for live online election coverage. If you have a favorite news provider, check their website for links to a live stream. If you’re not picky, big name sources like CNN or WSJ are always a good default, since they tend to have the technical resources to support heavy-duty live-streaming of major news events. If all else fails, head over to UStream and take your pick.(Want to see how far we’ve come? IndvSL: Team India pays tribute to Kumar Sangakkara

first_imgIndian cricketers Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and team director Ravi Shastri on Monday paid tributes to veteran Sri Lankan batsman Kumar Sangakkara, who will be playing the final Test of his career in the second game of the three-match series which begins at the P. Sara Oval Stadium here on Thursday.India Test skipper Kohli said he would remember Sangakkara for the lovely human being that he is and the honour of playing alongside him over the years. Also read: No Sanga show in Galle “I am sure if a guy who is retiring from the game, I cannot connect to it but I can imagine the kind of emotions he might feel because this is something that he has probably done for the last 20 years day in and day out of everyday life. And, not to do that anymore would be a big shock for anyone,” Kohli said.Sangakkara has scored a whopping 12350 runs in 133 Tests. His 14-year career includes 38 centuries with his highest score being 319 against Bangladesh. Also read: High hopes for fitting end to Sangakkara’s career The Sri Lankan made his debut against South Africa at Galle, in July 20, 2000.He is a lovely person “He has been a wonderful player for Sri Lanka. A lot of left-handers really look up to him for the way he plays. His technique and the way he has scored runs all over the world, his numbers speak for themselves. He is a wonderful human being. He is a lovely person. I have had quite a few chats with him on the field and away from the field as well,” Kohli said.advertisement”I am actually glad that he is going to be playing his last few games against us because it is a special occasion for us to be a part of. Such a legend of the game retiring, as a young side it will be an honour for us to give him that respect in his last few Tests,” the 26-year-old added.”Hopefully he doesn’t score too many runs against us but I really wish him all the luck with his life after cricket. It has been wonderful to know such a great player and a great man.”He is unmatched for his consistency Ravi Shastri flipped back the years and hailed Sangakkara as one of the statesmen of the modern game.”I saw him from his first game. I was commentating on that game when he played and he is still around. He broke into being one of the top two or three players and he never got out of that. There might have been a one year or a six-month period where his form might have dipped. But otherwise, for sheer consistency, he is unmatched,” Shastri said.Elaborating further on what made the left-handed batsman so special, Shastri said, “His ability to adapt and concentrate and his ability to bat for long periods of time. He had a wide range of shots, understood his game well and obviously worked as hard as any you would get. Also, his simple ability to assess the conditions very quickly, be it England, Australia, South Africa, West Indies or Colombo made him very special.”I was fortunate enough to watch him play Rohit Sharma too joined in, wishing Sangakkara the best post his retirement.”He has been a stalwart of the game and played this game in true spirit. I was fortunate enough to watch him play closely many a times in my career. I would just like to wish him all the very best,” Sharma said.last_img read more

The four simple steps to prevent saggy jowls

first_imgA defined jawline is often hailed as one of the key indicators to a youthful face. But from the age of 25 elastin and collagen levels drop at an alarming rate of around six per cent year, and our jawline begins to sag, which can add years to our appearance. While some turn to invasive surgeries such as face lifts, three industry experts have now shared their top tips to maintaining a sharp jawline the natural way – and the key is in starting early. 1. Creams won’t reverse but they can preventDr. Justine Hextall, Constultant Dermatologist on behalf of The Harley Medical Group, told Femail that regularly moisturising will help slow down the skin’s aging process, though it will not reverse it.‘It would be unlikely that applying a cream would immediately correct a sagging jawline,’ she said. ‘Although newer technologies allow for deeper penetration of topical preparations I am not aware of any cream that can truly firm skin after a few applications with lasting results.‘That said, serums and creams with anti-oxidants can protect skin and mitigate against the free radical damage from the effects of pollution and sun exposure amongst other things.‘So in effect they can protect against damage to the skin’s collagen and elastin over time, if used regularly.’2. Don’t underestimate the effect of your lifestyleDr. Julia Sevi, Medical Practitioner at Aesthetic Health highlighted the important of a healthy lifestyle.‘In the quest to preserve collagen and elastin there are key things to avoid and important positive lifestyle factors to pursue,’ she said.‘The biggest culprits are sunlight, smoking, pollution and stress which accelerate the decline of collagen and elastin and hence increase the appearance of sagging skin.’Sharing her advice on how best to protect you skin against exposure to these factors, she said: ‘Avoiding cigarette smoke and regular application of Factor 50 sunscreen even in winter, with the addition of a hat in summer, can minimize further damage. ‘We cannot avoid pollution but we can help protect against it by wearing antioxidant skincare and at night we should double cleanse and tone to ensure maximum removal of pollutants.‘Reducing chronic stress is an important factor in preserving collagen and healthy skin function.‘Positive lifestyle factors for saving sagging skin include getting eight hours sleep per night, good nutrition including adequate protein, antioxidants, vitamins A, B,C & D3, zinc and omega 3, taking regular exercise and considering hormone balance in an early menopause.’3. Meet with a skincare specialist‘The key is to meet with a skin care specialist and plan a treatment programme, that includes the best possible skin care regime for your skin.’ Dr. Justine told Femail.‘I am a believer in maintaining skin health and having a good skin care regime, healthy diet and having intermittent non-surgical interventions which a Dermatologist can advise on.’Justine revealed that many women are advised to remove fat from around their jaw, while others prefer to focus on stimulating existing collagen with radiofrequency treatment and micro-needling. 4. Start earlyCosmetic Surgeon Dr. Alex Karidis stressed the importance of starting a skincare routine early.‘From the age of 25 we lose about six per cent of our skin elastin yearly and I think it’s good to be aware of this,’ he said. ‘There are people that embrace professional non-surgical treatments early on in their life, from their thirties, and the idea is to prevent sagging rather than reversing the effects of ageing.’Explaining that many of his clients have avoided invasive treatments later on in life, he added: ‘I have found from my experience of 15 years that people who embrace professional devices are the ones who are delaying the need for further face treatments in later years.‘It is a regular programme that you have to maintain and if you stop it, you will lose the results you’ve worked for. ‘There are various ways you can stimulate the skin including light peels and LED treatments. There’s not one silver bullet that does everything, it’s a combination of everything,’ he concluded.Sourcelast_img read more
